ChessPlay
Privacy policy
Last updated: 28 September 2026
ChessPlay is provided by Warpkode AS, Norway. No account is required. The app has no advertising, third-party analytics, or cross-app tracking. Warpkode does not automatically receive your games, ratings, or app preferences and does not operate a game-storage or matchmaking server for ChessPlay.
Data on your device
Your ongoing and completed games, move history, analysis, ratings, progress, and preferences are stored locally on your device. Computer play, the private ranked ladder, fictional Elite opponents, two-player games, and analysis run locally. They do not send game data to Warpkode or match you with people online.
Saved Apple Intelligence games also keep the model used, game moves, and information needed to resume play. ChessPlay does not save model prompts, transcripts, hidden reasoning, or token counts as part of your game records.
Optional Apple Intelligence
ChessPlay offers an optional Apple Intelligence opponent through Apple's Foundation Models framework. When you use the on-device model, the position and legal moves are processed on your device. That model does not send your chess prompts to a server and never automatically switches a request to the cloud.
Optional Private Cloud Compute
On supported devices running iOS or iPadOS 27 or later, Apple Intelligence (Cloud) chooses moves using Apple's Private Cloud Compute. It may be selected automatically when available, but no game position is sent until you accept ChessPlay's consent notice. Your choice is remembered on this device.
For each requested move, Apple's framework sends the current chess position, side to move, game variant, legal candidate moves, and recent move history to Apple's Private Cloud Compute service. Apple's framework handles the connection and processing. Warpkode does not receive these requests or operate the model service. The app uses the selected move to continue the game and does not save the model's generated explanation.
Apple describes Private Cloud Compute as using request content only to fulfill the request and not retaining it after returning the response. Apple may separately collect limited, non-identifiable information such as request size, features used, and processing time. Your device's Apple analytics settings may also apply. See Apple's Private Cloud Compute privacy requirements and Apple Intelligence & Privacy for details.
Cloud play requires internet access and may be subject to Apple's availability and usage limits. You can decline the initial cloud choice or choose the on-device model for new games. To stop requests from an existing cloud game, leave that game and do not resume it. Other chess modes do not require this service. ChessPlay does not send chess prompts to third-party AI providers.
Backups, imports, and sharing
When you export a PGN or ChessPlay backup, you choose where to save or share it using iOS. A backup can contain your games, ratings, progress, analyses, and preferences. Importing a backup reads the file you select and restores it locally. ChessPlay does not upload these files to Warpkode.
Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, email, or another destination you choose handles storage or delivery under its own privacy practices. Anyone who receives an exported file may be able to read its contents. Shared or exported copies are not removed when you delete the original data in ChessPlay. Device backups, when enabled, are managed through your Apple backup settings.
Deleting local data
Use Reset ChessPlay in the app's Settings to delete ratings, game history, ongoing games, and remembered options from this device. Removing the app also removes its local data. Manage exported files, shared copies, and device backups separately in the service or location where you saved them. Warpkode cannot restore local games that you have deleted without a backup.
Support and website
If you contact support, Warpkode receives the contact information, message, and any attachments you choose to provide and uses them to respond to your request. Only send a game or backup when it is relevant. For questions about a support message or to request its deletion, contact us using the address below.
Opening a support or privacy page makes a normal web request to warpkode.com. The website's hosting provider processes technical request information to serve and protect the site. The website contact form uses its own spam protection.
